The tears of Boabdil el Chico for the loss of the city of Granada on 2nd January 1492 began to flow the minute he looked back to see the Alhambra, illuminated by the setting Sun, silhouetted against the Sierra Nevada. At that historic instant, eight centuries of Arab occupation of the Iberian Peninsula came to an end.
